THE MAN WITH TWO DOGS

The exchange.

One day, while crossing a large forest, Jean encountered a hunter, followed by two dogs. The white lamb was frightened at the sight of the dogs, and John took him in his arms. The hunter came up and said to him:

"Will you, young man, give me your white lamb, in exchange for my two dogs?"

"Please excuse me, my lord, I do not want to give up my white lamb."

"I will also give you my rifle."

"No, no, I will not part with my white lamb."

And he held him close to his heart. And he walked away. The lord followed him, saying:

"These dogs, my friend, will defend you and save you from danger, wherever you find yourself."

"I will not give my lamb, I will not give my lamb."

And he continued on his way. However, he soon reflected and said to himself:

"That hunter's dogs are lovely! They will defend me everywhere and save me from danger, he told me; and my poor lamb, alas! cannot do it. And his rifle is also gorgeous!… I have to go back and tell him that I accept."

And he turned back and began to cry:

"Lord! Lord! I accept the deal, your two dogs and your gun, for my white lamb."

And they made the exchange.

"The dogs are called Brise-Fer (Iron-Breaker) and Sans-Pareil (Unmatched)", the lord told him.

Jean continued his journey, followed by his two dogs with his rifle on his shoulder, and very proud of the deal.

Towards sunset, he came across a clog maker's hut in the woods.

He entered and asked:

"Do you know any gentleman in the area who needs a good hunter?"

"There is, not far from here, in the middle of the wood, a castle where resides a lord who constantly has twelve hunting servants, with whom he roams the forest every day; one of his hunters left him yesterday, and if you are a good shot, I think he will take you into his service."

Jean immediately went to the castle, and the lord accepted him, all the more willingly since he liked his two dogs very much.

But the cook was not pleased with this extra pack, and therefore more work for her who was also preparing the dogs' food, and she gave Jean a less than gracious welcome.

"Don't be angry, cook, said the latter, my dogs are not like the other dogs you have here, and they will do you a thousand little services; see instead: "Here, Brise-Fer and Sans-Pareil, and quickly pluck these partridges for me!"

And in the blink of an eye, they had plucked two dozen partridges from the table. The cook then stopped murmuring, and from that moment Brise-Fer and Sans-Pareil were her protégés, and she always had something good in store for them.

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

Now we know why the tale title is "The Man with Two Dogs". Jean is this man.

Even though his heart was telling him to keep the white lamb, his mind convinced him to make the exchange.

Now, he is a hunter for a lord.

Kati, my wife, is currently crocheting bags for herself and as gifts for members of our families.

Recently, she has finished this one:

Inside, there is a lining with six pockets.

And it can be closed with a zipper.

She spent hours making this bag. If she was to sell it, it would cost a lot of money for the buyer.

I think exchanging lamb with two dogs and rifle was a good move, as he was on travel and he should have someone to save him from any danger that comes in his way and dogs are very good in it. he also now has a rifle, which helps him getting a job as a hunter and also he and his dogs won the heart of the cook, who in the start think them as extra burdon.

Kati has done a great job while preparing these bags, i love the thread color she has used to prepare these bags. they are the perfect gift to give some one special.

Now the story has become more interesting and the way we see that the forest is beautiful and there we also feel fear and the deal that is going on between them. It will be known in the upcoming episodes whether this person will benefit or lose in time, but I have to say here that it is true that dogs are very loyal and will save their owner's life. So doing a lot, thinking about this thing, this thing is understanding that this deal will be good for the man who gave the lamp and took the dogs, but the way he went and the cook It has been said to give it to them but it is not giving it to him and it should not be done in this way. Now it is to be seen which person will be the beneficiary of this deal at the time. This story is very interesting.

I personally like this bag a lot because the colors used inside it are very beautiful.

What a complicated decision Jean had to make!
Sometimes our minds lead us down a different path than our hearts desire.
It's sad to see him become a hunter, but I hope he's at least okay with his decision.
Sometimes life puts us in difficult situations, but I hope Jean finds peace and happiness in his new position.
I'm sure this story has many lessons we can learn.

Wow, that's amazing! Kati's dedication and talent for crafting these beautiful bags is incredible.
Her hard work and attention to detail really shine.

Jean demonstrates loyalty and bravery by rejecting the hunter's offer for his white lamb, despite tempting offers of dogs and rifle. However, his decision changes when he reflects on the dogs' abilities and the rifle's usefulness for his own safety. This turn shows the influence of reason on emotion. In the end, Jean strikes a beneficial deal by getting a job as a hunter in a castle.

A very pretty bag, I like the colors. Making a bag is difficult so you have to have a lot of skill.

I just hope Jean made the right decision by giving out his Lamb in exchange for the two dogs.
Sometimes we have to make sacrifices to get to where we want. I know it was very difficult for Jean to make that decision because he likes the Lamb so much, but he had no choice. Whereas the two dogs actually help him in gaining a job in the Lord's place.

Wow!!!!, the bag Mrs. Kati made looks so beautiful and I think I like the colour.

Jean has a great future before him, his part I believe will be shining, started a journey with a lamb, but ended up with two intelligent dogs and a gun, became a hunter to a lord. Makes me remember a saying in the scriptures," if God be for you, no man can be against you" his own sister wanted him dead but God mercy took him to a better place.

You wife kati has a wonderful talent, the bag doesn't look like hand hand, she is really good at what she do. I wish I can learn from her and be good like her.

This exchange between Jean and the hunter betraying his beloved white lamb for two dogs and a rifle adds an extra turn to tale. Jean’s initial reticence influenced by the emotional bond is relegated to a practical concession on his part after he sees that dogs and rifle would come in handy for him. Brise- Fer and Sans Pareil show their mettle, by snatching partridges even captivating the initially discontented cook. Such a sequence of events demonstrates the challenges associated with making decisions, emotion versus reason. You have given the appeal of these folk rhymes and made them palatable to a larger audience, through your translations. Second, the crocheted bag made by Kati is a wonderful work of art that attests to her ability and effort. Thanks for letting us enjoy these fascinating stories and the art work of your wife!

Let's hope Jean made the right decision by selling his white lamb for the two dogs and a rifle. Maybe in the future the two dogs are going to be of immense importance to him and maybe help save his life or help make him some fortune. Let's hope things go well with him in the service of this new lord and maybe this is where he will get the help to retake his throne. Let's just watch out.

Thanks for sharing.

Katie did a good job with the bag and it looks nice. It's certain she will make some good amount if she decides to sell it. She's clearly good at weaving. Goodbye and God bless.

"Life is C between B and D"

"Life is C between B ( Birth ) and D ( Death ). " Reminds me of a quote by Jean Paul Satrte.

Jean's inner struggle to make a choice is well expressed. I feel that Jean's choice was the right one. The two dogs will protect and be with Jean, and they are really smart.

Kati's crocheted bag is a great thing, it is priceless because it is a gift of love for the family.
I want Kati to create her own little logo and put it in her bag, just as artists are signature about their paintings. 👍

At the start I thought it would not be useful deal for the boy but the dog are very talented. May be his story needs the dog service or nay protect him in the next part of the story...

This bag is adorable it could be use to carry multiple things. Thanks for sharing 🙏

I can see that Jean never wanted to part with his companion, the little lamb but exigencies demanded that he exchanged it for the two dogs and the rifle. It was a tough decision for him but judging by what happened with the Lord of the castle, it's possible he made the right decision.
I hope that his meeting the lord of the castle would bring him good fortune.

The crochet bag is cute and it costs quite a fortune everywhere.

This bag is really good and this is more valuable as it is hand made and alot of time and skills has required to finished it.
Such articles really cost high for buyers and its color is also very descent.
If we talk about the story,
The title is no doubt now clearly shows the man with two dogs but I am feeling sad for his lamb as lamb could not save his life from danger but lamb was so obedient and lovely to him and he also loves him alot and when He refused his offer and lately he feels to accept it, I think his decision was good for his life and in our lives we have to take some decisions which are not acceptable by our heart but our mind accept them.

Sometimes we are faced with very tough decisions like this one. Jean had to part with his lamb for the dogs and the rifle and at the end, it turned out to be a good decision. But I keep wondering why the lord wanted Jean's lamb. Let's wait and see.
The crochet bag is a beauty and yes it does cost a lot of money to get stuffs like this.

There is no doubt that the dogs will be useful for Jean but I think there is something special about the white lamb because I am trying to think about what we will make someone request for a white lamb in exchange of two dogs that can be very helpful.

He even exchanged his rifle too. I’m sure the white man will do the lamb favor and I’m sure the two fogs will be helpful but something interesting will come after this

He must have really been terrified at first following him seeing the hunter and the two dog. Probably the dog might even be ready to attack but glad it didn't turn out to be that way. Giving that white lamb in exchange for two dog can really be terrifying request because that is not suitable. If I am also in his shoe, it will be difficult for me to actually let go of my lamb. "That hunter's dogs are lovely! They will defend me everywhere and save me from danger, he told me; and my poor lamb, alas! cannot do it. And his rifle is also gorgeous!… I have to go back and tell him that I accept." Jean continued his journey, followed by his two dogs with his rifle on his shoulder, and very proud of the deal. And the journey might have really been so much tedious. So tedious I strongly believe.

In the end, Jean's wise decision to trade his beloved white lamb for the hunter's dogs and rifle not only enhanced his protection in the vast forest but also led him to a prosperous opportunity in the service of a lord. This is proving that sometimes, unexpected choices pave the way for unforeseen advantages.

I did not expect Jean to part with his lamb so soon. He did think a lot about it, but I am sad he still did the exchange. I am curious why the dogs' owner decided to part with them when they are so intelligent. Maybe he was the hunter that just left, and wanted to live a more simple life.

Sometimes life forces us to make difficult decisions, we do not want to let go of something but we have to do it if it is for our benefit, although there is also the uncertainty of whether Jean made the right decision or let himself be dazzled by the charm of the dogs and the rifle.

Gifts that are made by hand are highly valued and loved
