Got myself two Bitmain ASIC miners

in #technology5 days ago

With all the excess power I plan on producing with my upcoming changes to my solar array, I needed something to make use of all that solar power. Running two of these will use close to 7000w. So depending on how much power my solar panels produce I should be able to run two or more from what I can tell based on napkin math.

Setting them up I run them for about an hour to make sure they work well, but they are very loud and a kit is made for them to get them a little more quiet using larger fans. They make special kits for them that remove the very loud stock fans. And use a grow tent fan inline to cool them instead.

Running the miners for an hour they work well without issue. So its time to take them apart.

These fans are powerful but its as loud as a server running at full speed. Not something you want to be in the same room with.

I think many put these in rooms not near where people live. So sound is not much of an issue, but I plan on having these in my house, so I want to quiet them down a bit.

We can see them hashing and getting warm, wanted to make sure there were no issues before I took them apart. As I would have no idea if it was a defect or something I did. So now I know they work, a bit loud but works fine.

With the fan shroud installed and an 8 inch grow tent fan cooling it all it should drop the sound quite a bit.

I have to take off the top part of the miner to get to the fan wires. By disconnecting them, the miner will not work as it would quickly overheat if the fans broke. So as a saftey feature it shuts in that case. And since I am using a single powerful fan some tweaking will be needed to get it working.

A fan spoofer is what I needed, this micro computer tells the miner the fans are there even when they are not. And allows me to run a single powerful fan with shrouds to make it all work and keep the miner happy.

I got the old wires out and the spoofer installed and all wired in.

Putting it back together and installing the shrouds is next. We can see how a fan attaches to the shroud kit.

Next is to built out my 33kw solar array to power these, but for now they will just sit inactive. I calculated if I was to run these on the grid I would barely make more than a dollar a day. But running 100% on solar should be closer to around $25 a day. Not a lot, but I can always add more miners later if I have excess power.

All done! Filters on the front to keep dust out, and exhaust pipes on the back to let air out.. they get quite warm.

I've always thought it a great idea to power miners with solar! It's almost a no brainer

Yeah I think it's the smart way of using the extra power. Besides storing excess power in batteries. I feel like it's the best use of the power. Honestly better than storing in batteries as there is a small loss.

Now you're in business. Good luck!

Yep sure am.. thanks

Haha yes! Like a fall back to a simpler time on the homestead and at the cutting edge of digital finance at the same time! How cool is that?

Any plans of harvesting the exhaust to warm the house / greenhouse?

Hah yep. Got a balance of homesteading with some good Internet for technology.

Yeah I am considering where to set them up now to help warm the house the best. Those ducts should be perfect for routing.

Congrats on getting yourself two Bitmain ASIC miners! Bitmain’s latest models like the Antminer S21 series offer powerful hash rates (over 200 TH/s per unit) with advanced cooling and efficiency features, making them popular choices in 2025 for profitable Bitcoin mining. Make sure to optimize your setup with proper cooling and power management to maximize performance and ROI. Happy mining!

Wow! Those a cool, from the sounds of it you will be able to use these as additional house heaters :)
The math right now might be $25 a day, but think what it will be once BTC inevitably reaches over $1,000,000 ...

Yep this winter they should prove to be quite useful in the added heat.

So true. If we had a massive bull run and a miner squeeze the profits could shoot up quickly the quickly until more hash rate joins the network.

Tent crypto mining! Brillant!

Haha yeah I have seen it done before. Should work well if I wanted to. But for now just using a fan.

Wow, that's awesome! Yeah, I have had a few servers in my office when I was getting them ready for the rack and they are so loud. Especially when they are running full blast.

Hah yeah working in IT reminded me of the sound of server rooms.

Waooo congratulations 👏

Like wow...

You're really just going and going and it's incredible 😂✨

Indeed. Keep on building here.

I am also doing similar with excess solar power.
Except I'm using immersion cooling.

What sort of miners are they? S19s?

Oh cool. That would be a good way to keep the noise down.

They are S21 Pros

I'm amazed by what I see, and I start dreaming about what it would be like if I could have one in Cuba. My 16 or 20 hours of daily power outages would be resolved.
Congratulations

Ah yeah these are only for those with reliable and excess power. I am fortunate to have these things.

A good use of excess solar power to mine crypto

Thanks.. will do another update post when it's all online.

Great pickup—congrats on the acquisition of two Bitmain ASIC miners. Which model did you get, and how are you planning to power and cool them for optimal efficiency?

I have S21 Pros. In the post I talk about how I cool them and power them.

You keep amazing me. I do not understand it, but it sounds like a good plan. I hope it does all you need it to do.

I’m still learning about mining and solar power, but seeing how you’re combining both is inspiring. Love how you’re making use of that solar energy instead of letting it go to waste!

Ah thank you..should be quite the experience.

Sounds you also need like a external battery for the night times to also have some left over power from the day to use in the night?

Love hear how this works though! I use the excess solar power here to put in an electrical vehicle and that also saves a lot of cash, but putting it in a miner sounds even more smart hahahaha

I have a 845AH battery bank. So once that is all charged I can start using some at night. Hard to say if I have enough for mining as well. But during the day I should have excess PV for sure.

Wow, these are some pretty cool devices.
Hope they are productive enough to bring you a lot of money 😍

Ah thanks. I am glad I was able to get them. For years there were waiting lists but now it seems they are more available.

Hehe me too

Brother's gonna make some real money now

Hey @solominer

Congratulations on your new miners. You did a pretty good job in setting it up and trying to manage the excessive noise.

Thanks much. I think the new fans should help.

Pretty dope!

Sure is.. all coming along here

Wow I enjoyed reading this blog..I just now became interested about solar power and mining..Great content❤️❤️❤️

Nice . Glad you liked my post

This won't surpass your solar supply?
I was looking at solar for BTC mining and have an auto cut off when the battery is below 10%. Never got around to doing it though.

With the state of my array currently I cannot run them both on a single array. I could run one on each array if I wanted. But once I get my new panels up I should have quite the excess solar supply for them.

I think i am only going to run them during the day at first. And then consider running at night too if I have enough PV to charge and run the miners... We shall see.

Setting something up like that would be nice. But for now I will try to manually balance it all.
