Never Meet Your Heroes

What a disappointment it is to meet up with people and to find yourself comparing them to others that you know, or wish you knew.

On the other hand, there are folks who you arrange to meet for a little while and the time slips by so swiftly you wish there was more that could be shared.

This was the experience today when we managed to intersect with @bitterirony and @alessandrawhite on their busy trip from the Pacific North West.

We arranged to interrupt their east-to-west journey at Exeter and have afternoon tea in a cafe and antiques center on Exeter Quay.

What a joy!

Having met Alessandra, and Devin, on Creative Work Hour, there was a certain level of comfort for me, but my wife Liz only knew of them from things I've said, and similar for them with her.

Well, once we'd decided on what to eat and drink (kudos to both for ordering tea), and we'd given a quick primer on the difference between crumpets, English muffins, and tea cakes, conversation wobbled about between things we had in common, like cats and moving and storage units holding belongings during house moves.

We even took a couple of pics:
One with all us

and a few of the ladies looking like firm friends

Now, all'y'all need to be on the watch for @alessandrawhite's upcoming 250 word post about the difference between crumpets, English Muffins, and tea cakes.

Have been locked out of Hive for several months now (ok, more like I lost my keys and just now found them) so just found this wonderful post! Yes, it was a delight seeing you both and can't wait to host you here in the PNW where we will return the favor and take you for coffee and doughnuts!

How good are these meetings with other humans, when you know that you can interact with them using the Hive blockchain?

crumpets, English Muffins, and tea cakes.

The difference is the price and the calorific values?

Nope. The difference is the type of comestible.

comestible

Today I both learned that this word exists, and its meanings. How have I spent 35 years on this Earth without hearing this muttered or shouted in an English speaking nation?

Well, I could point to you being an Ozzie...

And on reflection, apart from my being a Brit, nothing else

The next time I go to the supermarket, I'll grab someone by the shoulders and maniacally exclaim "WHERE ARE THE COMESTIBLES?"

Though, I don't think this approach would work in a Tesco, those places are rarely staffed by humans these days, or so I am led to believe by the Tabloids.

Simon says 'Identify English Muffins as used with eggs benedict or your ass is toast'

My wife prefers English Muffins over The Tea Cake or Crumpet, and is not too fond of toast. She can't poach an egg, but will poach me for making that statement public, un-fungible, immutable information.

Great to see meetups with visitors from across the pond. Did you guys talk about jam or cream first on scones? That always seems to be a fun topic 🙂

We already know the correct order.

Butter, jam, cream.

Those who don't use butter, or put cream first, are welcome to change to the correct method or otherwise persist in their heterodoxy in silence.

I've never been offered butter with my scones before ... But definitely cream on top of jam, I love piling the cream high in my scones, that's the best part!!!

butter on warm scones is the BEST

Get. Butter.

To our sweet friends IN REAL LIFE, Stuart and Liz! 🍰 🫖

It was such a whirlwind trip! We couldn’t believe how far we had come & how many places we had been within 48 hours of waking up in Spokane, Washington, USA. We drove to Seattle, flew to London-Heathrow, collected baggage & repeated security for the last minute flight Stockholm-Armada to rehearse the world premiere of “Solistice” Concertino with composer @AndySporring, whom we both know and love from #CreativeWorkHour & #Hive.

Moving non-stop, we got back to London and hired a car to come meet up with you and Liz. You promised a Crème Tea and boy, did you deliver!

I had Assam black tea, a fave from long ago. I did NOT have a crumpet. I had a tea cake! I see the difference now!

This beautiful meet-up, just the four of us was so, so real-
a real Cornwall crème tea, really funny dry humor, and real warmth of close, creative friends!

@BitterIrony & I are honored to now owe you two a Crème Tea!
