HI there all you tree lovers! As I post this, I'm thinking...is a Lilac a shrub or a tree? Well, today I'm calling it a tree! It is just so gorgeous popping up at the corner of our deck, sun shining brightly, gonna be 70 degrees F today!
I am off to a client that is just up the street (they are tree huggers, but not in a good way - more on that another time) and am running late, but needed to post this happiness that is my lilac. I swear, it's usually not in bloom till first week of May. So crazy.

I love bringing the lilacs inside- the fragrance is soooo good!
As for cuttings/propagation....I have no patience!!
I can imagine, I may try and grow a lilac tree, would be lovely out in my back garden :)

it's true, it's a shrub (multi stem). Bit there is such a thing as a lilac tree )just one trunk)....of course mine is not it ;0)
I'm sure we have some of those in our front garden. They get a little wild come summer. It's too early here for them to show themselves yet.

When I grew up on the VT/MA state line, I remember lilacs for Memorial Day. They have crept closer to the end of winter, and when I was married in 1987, I had my lilacs for flowers in my bouquet, May 9th. Right now I have swelling buds out there and they may be even earlier than that, this year.
it's kinda sad....
its so beautiful and who cares how it is classified for today it is a tree :)
