Bridge Proposal

What's a bridge? It's funds that are needed for the time span between the end of Q3 and the start of Q4. The reason that there is a discrepancy between what was projected and what was spent is the increase in moderately-priced conferences and opportunities.

This proposal is seeking to fill 150,000 HBD.

Right now as we write and you read this, the Blockchain Rio conference is on in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It closely follows the previous conferences Blockchaincon LATAM in Bogota, Colombia, on July 18-19 and Talent Land in Málaga, Spain, on July 3-5.

Project Management

@Lordbutterfly will be joining @guiltyparties and @crimsonclad as a project manager on Value Plan effective immediately. He's spent countelss hours planning and organizing Hive promotional activities, both under Value Plan and beyond. Project management is an additional strategic role to everything he continues to contribute (this year's HiveFest is shaping up to be incredible!).

Your Value Plan keyholders remain @theycallmedan, @smooth, @guiltyparties, @crimsonclad and @blocktrades.

Upcoming Events

HiveFest

This year's HiveFest is to be held in Split, Croatia, in a castle among other venues. That's right, a castle. The event will bring both Hive community members and blockchain proponents together under one roof for a fun and engaging social conference.

Greece WRC Rally

We participated in this challenging race last year and are looking forward to another go around the track. We are looking forward to amplifying our presence in various ways in order to maximize Hive's exposure in this beautiful country.

Blockchain Rio

Blockchain Rio, which we mentioned earlier, is about to start in Rio de Janeiro. This is the first major conference we've pursued in Brazil and is in parallel to ongoing opportunity discussions for Hive to make a name for itself in the Brazilian market.

TechEx Europe

For the second year in a row Hive will be represented at TechEx Europe in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Earlier this summer we were part of the North American convention in Santa Clara, California, USA. If previous events are a predictor, we are looking forward to another great conference.

Ghana Community Well Initiative

We don't want to spoil what's to come but as you can probably guess, it will be groundbreaking. Earlier this year the Ghana team went well beyond providing drinking water with the New Internet conference and is projected to continue on this trajectory.

A new community well is launched, read more here.

The above is just a partial schedule and some, not all, of the key components which will be covered by this bridge proposal.

There are also two large conferences coming up where our participation is unconfirmed yet. We are presently looking for ways to minimize our participation costs through various avenues.

Accounting

Currently all Value Plan accounting is managed using Google Sheets. Each event has its own sheet and either a digital or physical folder for receipts where applicable. All transactions are also available on chain and can be seen in the wallet.

It is important to clarify that while an amount may go to an account, it does not mean that that account was "paid". In several instances, in an effort to keep funds on chain, we conduct OTC sales. This is done rarely and only with larger amounts. This allows Hive members to purchase HIVE or HBD while helping pay for promotional activities and saving Hive money due to lack of conversion fees.

Accounts processing Value Plan-issued funds are typically encouraged to be either cold wallets or project accounts that are carefully monitored. For this reason, it is best to ascertain the destination of the funds by the label on the memo and not by the account name. Every transaction has a clear label.

Name of activity | Country | details

Some activities have the name of the overall project and others of the specific event. Where the overall project name is used, the event name will typically be specified in the memo. This allows us to add up the total cost for each stream of funding irrespective of which account processed the funds. Different accounts will often process different types of funds. Merchandise may be handled by one person and sponsorship by another.

Logistics

What goes into these activities? Why are they so expensive?

  • Transportation
  • Accommodations where required
  • Event food for participants and guests
  • Audiovisual and photography
  • Insurance!
  • Rental costs
  • Materials for events
  • Hive merchandise
  • Signage and installations
  • Design of booths, materials and slides
  • Legal requirements and permits
  • Media costs
  • Sponsorship
  • Minor giveaways

When we think of an event we're familiar with, such as a birthday party, we think of things like food and location. We don't take into account things like insurance, which are mandatory in most venues due to liability concerns. There are numerous legal and regulatory requirements that go into consideration for every activity. Special permits must be completed and submitted, with their respective costs, for some events. Others require the presence of security or even the paramedics. It is generally far more economical to make provisions ahead of an event than to deal with the fallout should the unthinkable happen.

Those who have planned a major event such as a wedding before know how challenging it is to provide proper food. We all remember going to some event which was ruined because food was inadequate. All Hive events are carefully planned to ensure the proper amount of food and choice of food is ordered. At the annual Bitcoin Pizza Days, for example, all pizzas are calculated and cut in such a way that participants can enjoy themselves but there is no waste. Cultural needs, quality, hygene, event requirements, and so on are taken into account. We've been asked before why we don't have people bring potluck-style meals -- potlucks are only suitable for intimate occasions, not for commercial-grade events, due to food safety, quality and liability reasons.

Assets

There is plenty of speculation about the life cycling and sale of Hive assets that are no longer in use. The most notable of these is the original Hive rally car. The vehicle is scheduled to be put up for sale after the CER rally in late Fall. The vehicle was originally purchased with a partial investment from its driver, Slaven, and is not 100% Hive-owned. What happens to the Hive portion of the funds? At the time of sale we will put up a community discussion whether it's optimal to invest the funds in fiat into Hive promotions or to convert them back to HIVE and either place them back into the DHF or simply burn. This is something for everyone to think about.

Safety

Safety is an important topic that we feel needs to be addressed. Safety is taken very seriously in Value Plan activities and we always strive to ensure that our Hive community members are kept safe while organizing, assisting or participating in events. Public transportation use, outside of trains and air travel, is normally discouraged in most parts of the world, including in any major cities. Legitimate taxis and ubers are preferred. Ideas for positive improvements towards a more secure environment at Hive-related events (including external conferences) are encouraged in the comments below.

Proposal

This proposal seeks 150,000 HBD to cover upcoming expenses.

It would be great if there would be some kind of portal where we can see these events BEFORE they take place... For example, this one is near to my place and I had no idea about it... and I suppose that some other people would contribute there and help HIVE to have an even better presence...

Maybe some kind of portal with future events, or something like that...

100% I had the same thing.
An event was down the road from me and I missed it.

Well I think should be an account with calendar of what is happening, @hallmann doing it at https://peakd.com/polish/@krolestwo/kalendarz-wydarzen-w-krolestwie-bez-e6fa5ce5850ef

Would be great to have it for upcoming sponsored event for example
xx.xx.xxxx (Date) - Place, Location - What

Something like that would be perfect!!! 💪

I truly hope we can move away from conferences and repurpose those funds towards beneficial causes that have a positive effect on the world, and will serve far more as a promotion of Hive.

Over time we'll see fewer conference sponsorships because we'll see more invitations to speak free of charge. We're already seeing these. There will still be some conferences where we absolutely must sponsor, but there will be more of a balance in how many of these vs the by invitation there are. We're also moving more into hackathons and getting people to actively build solutions. These are normally economical and beneficial to everyone.

OK, so this pays for some folks to go on some fun, expensive trips and stuff.

But what results have you achieved for the chain or community with the money expended so far, and what concrete, tangible results are you going to achieve with another round of funding?

Be Specific. Very specific. With numbers and amounts and whatever other metrics make sense to prove returns for this money?

The Rio conference which has cost the Hive Community 21,917.50 HBD in June and more in July is being run by @arlettemsalase who has an account value of $43 dollars (excluding the 200HBD just transferred to her by Valueplan). Do you think that given this much funding to someone who has very little invested in the Hive Blockchain a good idea?? Or is it a matter of she was the only one around to do it?
The rally car driver @ssekulji has been funded over 530,000 Hive and 18,000 HBD YTD. This amounts to north of $190,000 in 2024 alone. The user has an account value of $271. Do you think giving this much funding to users who are not that invested in the platform is the right thing to do?? Maybe a limit of people who have less than 10,000 Hive staked could be a policy put in place? 10 out of the 18 accounts paid out by Valueplan in June had under $500 in their account value. I know you say you prefer paying into cold wallets. That being said the owners of these cold wallets do not have that much HP in their own user account either. @king13wallet and @king13 being one example. Everything could be legit. I am not saying they are not. But the optics look appalling here for everybody involved.

I don't think that is about how much hive power you got but about the history of what individuals doing, we see everything being posted if someone got fair record and reputation then it doesn't matter - our time, skills is money and we don't need to keep it in the system to proof it, sometimes we need to eat, feed our families.

We know historically that not all large stakeholders have the best interest of the chain at heart and that small stakeholders are more often than not the backbone of the chain. We know this because we wouldn't be here right now if that wasn't the case.

The funds issued to wallets are processed by them, they're not kept by or given to the individuals. The person simply takes the money and converts it into whatever currency that the vendor requires. Often we try to give conferences their own accounts, sometimes its not possible. The people themselves don't keep anything. They don't receive a 'management fee' or any other amount. They simply help make a payment possible.

Don't burn the money. If there's an opportunity to get a refund, take it.

I get that some people here want to see that car burn but you'd probably get more publicity using a match if that's the endgame.

And I'm saying this now because I might not be available to say it when the actual conversation takes place.

It'll be most economical to keep the money in Euros and cycle it back into activities but it's one of these things where the community has to help decide as nothing like this has ever happened before in any similar budget on any chain, as far as I'm aware at least.

Supported and rehived :-)

Great work was done and more is yet to come. We are grateful for how far we have come as hive with your support ❤️💪

Hey. I got a promotion. Nice. 😅

When I met you, you were some random dipshit in a comment section arguing with me about bidbots.

You've come a long way.

Now im a not so random dipshit. 😂

How fun is Hive?

How fun is Hive?

I've never both loved and hated something more in my life.

Whats a good way to send you a DM?

Is that PeakD chat we all paid for still working?

No idea how that works but I tried sending it there. see if it works.

A big congrats on your new promotion, hard work indeed pays, continue with the hard work and more success ahead come your way. Good luck and all the best!

Was not aware of @valueplan until @lordbutterfly mentioned it in a comment, seems interesting and a good intiative for Hive - thankls for letting me know.

Dear friends,
I learned only recently about @valueplan, which is a bit underwhelming, given that I was around for 7 (seven) years ... To me, it's the closest thing there is a to a "Hive Foundation". I remember back when Hive forked, one of the press articles covering the fork talking about the "2 Dan blockchain" when talking about Hive (@theycallmedan and @blocktrades).

I hope I can get involved more closely with @valueplan for the benefit of the ecosystem. It's one of the best around, yet frustratingly lacks public awareness.

How great it is to see everything we have achieved as a community. Now being here in Spain I will continue with the work of promoting Hive 😁
