I hope my grandchildren are disappointed in me.

That'd be great. If society's tolerance for aggression; its taste for involuntary control of the individual by the collective, has waned to such an extent that in hindsight I'm reviled as a willing participant and collaborator.
That would be fantastic.

The fact I registered the birth of my children, carried a driver's license when driving my registered car; all the ways I obeyed, co-operated, compromised.
I hope their respect for personal autonomy and commitment to consent in every relationship is so deep that I'm reduced to a shameful caricature of a monster, from a regretful chapter of our family's past.

That'd make me really happy.

It’s a different world our grand kids are moving into, with a nice crypto inheritance from grandad hopefully they can survive

Why? You're the one setting up the grandescendants on the path of being able to further think for themselves, embrace autonomy and hopefully build back better going forward. They'll do better than us and their kids will do better than them, ideally. Better that you figured out stuff at all than never, otherwise maybe the kids would be having to figure out the stuff you already know and presumably passed on to them when they're adults. At least they can say well maybe you didn't know better but at least you tried unlike most others.

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

We were born in to a system we can not overthrow (yet). The best we can fo is play our part to educate future generations that our way wasnt the only way....

Say some guy in Louisiana finds his great, great grandfather's diary. It details how he wanted to end slavery, but his plantation couldn't financially compete with that of slave owners; so he spoke out publicly against slavery and he only had his slaves work until the age of 50; and he didn't enslave their children. Does any of that matter? That he was a better slave owner than his neighbours? He would've thought it did, but do his ancestors?

Demanding perfection is the enemy of progress. It's important to judge a person's behavior based on the time era in which they lived.
The USA's founding fathers had many issues that are clear to us today. But considering the era of their lives, they were blinding beacons of light and justice. I would argue that their actions in setting up the most free country the world has ever known, play a huge factor in us even being able to see that they had any errors in the first place.
We should honor and respect the builders who have helped to move the world in a better direction. That doesn't mean we ignore their faults, we should point them out and strive to do even better.

Good words brother or sister.

As a fighter for freedom, the system i speak of in my reply to Matt may well interest you. Ask for links if so.

I'm not your grandchild :P

Our discussion earlier, about our personal horizons was a factor.
You're not a grandchild, you're more of a muse.

I'm honoured. Also, to be in this image. :)

This is a great write-up. Though, I'd imagine, they'd also see and appreciate how hard it was for you to break away from those law-abiding, controlled patterns.

Dear brother.

Experience has taught me that Shame is a feeling, which when integrated (in a particular way which i would love to share with you - just ask me) is like a fuel cell which can be used as power for moving forward.

i think that WHEN society reaches that point in (illusory) time when the vast majority of people (and thus society and humanity as a whole) are enlightened enough to act in non-violent and benevolent ways ... ... ...

... your grandsons will see that you did the best you were able in each present moment considering the circumstances.

They will emphatically realise (real-eyes) this & hold no judgement of your true self, as there is only One true self (you and they being One and the same).

They will feel gratitude for you and the part you played in helping society to evolve, as you are doing now.

They will see how you continued to grow in consciousness to help your self and other selves become better people.

They may even see how you became an active participant in a genisis group of thoughtful, committed citizens who were catalysts for changing the world using #TheMatrix8Solution, a particular people powered community governance system.

They may see you as the Grandfather who courageously became able to let go of shame, blame, of all judgements of himself (and others) thus transforming all those fuel cells to power himself forward on his journey of a courageous warrior becoming a hero of his grandchildren.

What future will you choose?
