Slow Sunday

in Silver Bloggers2 years ago (edited)

Yesterday was a day of rumination and reflection. I had planned to share - after a long time ago promise - a sourdough recipe. But this is what came out. While. Supper cooked itself.

Slow - like 7 hours cooked in the slow cooker - shoulder of lamb. It literally fell off the bone. It was finished off in the oven and the liquid reduced to make the gravy and seasoning adjusted accordingly.

I seeded the joint with garlic and rosemary and it sat on whole carrots and pearl onions. The "stock", I made from 1 mutton stock cube, about 30ml spicy plum jam and 125ml muscadel rosé that we will never drink and water to make 2 cups.

Accompaniments: rustic mustard potato mash and rosemary and lemon beans and courgettes (aka zucchini aka baby marrows).

The Husband piled his plate!

We were so lucky to have had the opportunity to get half a lamb at an excellent price: we are eking it out. This shoulder should feed us for at least 2 more meals.

Until next time, be well

If this post might seem familiar, it's because I'm doing two things:

  • re-vamping old recipes. As I do this, I am adding them in a file format that you can download and print. If you download recipes, buy me a coffee. Or better yet, a glass of wine....?
  • and "re-capturing" nearly two years' worth of posts.
I blog to the Hive blockchain using a number of decentralised applications.

I love when my dishes can last more meals, especially in the slow cooker. A day later it normally even taste better again 😉
Looks delicious @fionasfavourites 😊👋🏻
Have a wonderful Monday!

I actually plan some of my meals that way because the "leftover made-up" dish is often nicer than the original!

Happy Tuesday!

It is just great, or I create a whole new dish with leftovers by adding things… 😉

Thank you kindly!
Happy Tuesday @fionasfavourites 👋🏻😁

Lamb in the slow cooker, I have never thought of that, mind you I only seem to do beans in my slow cooker!
It looks ridiculously tasted though, lamb is so tasty normally I like mine pink but this seems a great way to cook it, and have wonderful aromas for hours!

We also like our lamb a little pink and that works well for a leg. A shoulder is a tougher joint,so long and slow works for that. And if you get mutton (as opposed to lamb) and which IMO has better flavour.

...great way to cook it, and have wonderful aromas for hours!

It is. I use my slow cooker for curries, jambalaya and stews. As with everything, it's all in the planning and then there's minimal fuss when supper time comes!

Yes I was wondering about the shoulder as it would need some time to cook.
Mutton yea exactly that would be ideal.
I think I shall what else can be down with a slow cooker. I have done stews and I have seen many recipes for curries in the slow cooker, which seems alien to me.
Oh well I shall have a look see next time I go shopping what meats are there for a slow cooker!

I would also have piled my plate! Lamb is about the only meat that I really enjoy and you have cooked it to perfection, plus the best veggies as well, so yum! And now I'm going to be making boring chicken pie!
I think Dan is right, you are being Cruella de Ville making us hungry with food like this!

Lamb (of tweetand skaap) is also my favourite. The Husband is a beef man. He loves a good steak! That said, he loves food... Happily so do I. And cooking.

I would love to replicate your recipe to eat with the Venezuelan arepa, I'm sure I would eat it a few times and if we add lettuce and tomato it would be the best of life. Mmmmmmmmm... my mouth is watering just imagining it, :) :) :)

I had to look up arepa. Of course I now want to make it but I don't think we can get masa(?) here. You have, though given me an idea. Thank you!

good food good life

Thanks!

When I saw it I knew it was a lamb shoulder roast! What a beautiful piece of meat 😋 Low and slow is the only way to go! Pitted with rosemary and garlic, spot on! Sometimes I'll ad some sundried tomatoes too.

Ooh, rustic mustard mash. That sounds great! Definitely something to keep in mind 😊 Never tried that before.

Sundried tomatoes, now there's an idea! You will enjoy the mustard mash. Goes well with oxtail, too!

I'll definitely give at a try sometime 👌
