Did you hear about TikTok pulling the plug on its "Task and reward" feature? It used to let users earn points for doing things in the app, which they could swap for Amazon vouchers. Sounds fun, right? But it turns out it was raising some red flags about making young people even more hooked on the app. TikTok has promised not to sneak it back in under another name, and if they break that promise, they could be in big trouble. The European Commission will be keeping a close eye to make sure they stick to their word. The experience of charging an electric vehicle in the US could be better, and a big new study is out that lists the biggest infrastructure pain points, including a failure to report broken stalls, inaccurate station status messages, aging equipment, and some habitually unreliable network providers (who go unnamed in the study, unfortunately).

Ai has really made thing easy but the part of AI that people still dont understand is AI prompting. AI is artificial and it will only operate based on what you tell it. If you give it the wrong prompting then you will have to do the work over and over again
The other part is that it isnt high precision right now. That is why when people ask for something very specific, it is hit or miss. When going general, the AI will create (generate) something with greater latitude.

I use #ai as a search engine (I think it is better than google search). Also I have made prompts to create ai created images, some I have shared on inleo. Lots of other stuff, but this is short form blogging!
Search can be tricky since it doesnt do as well with high precision. But then Google search isnt that either.

A new project called the Carbon Removal Standards Initiative (CRSI) launched today, with the goal of helping develop standards for efforts to draw down and sequester CO2.
It comes as big names in tech scale-up investments in carbon dioxide removal (CDR), even though there are still concerns about whether those technologies will be able to prove themselves at commercial scale.

Waymo is spreading out a little more in the two major cities in which it operates.
The robotaxi company announced today that it was growing its service areas in both San Francisco and Los Angeles, as the company seeks to attract more customers to its burgeoning business.
In San Francisco, Waymo’s service area is extending south of the city into the San Francisco Peninsula to cover Daly City, Broadmoor, and Colma — a total of 10 additional square miles for a total of 55 square miles.
The company recently got rid of its waiting list in San Francisco, opening up its 24/7 robotaxi service to anyone within the service area who has downloaded the Waymo One app.

Ford’s new Android-powered infotainment system is finally coming to a Ford-branded vehicle. The automaker’s so-called Digital Experience, which debuted with the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus earlier this year, will power the new 2025 Ford Explorer SUV, the company announced today.
The 2025 Ford Explorer includes many of the Digital Experience’s main features, including built-in Google Maps, Google Play Store, Google Assistant, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and digital HVAC controls.
It doesn't have the extravagant 48-inch panoramic screen setup that the Lincoln Nautilus has, but from the looks of it, the main 13.2-inch touchscreen has the same interface. And the Explorer’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster can project maps for the first time

An analysis of 20,000 EV stations concludes that charging is still a massive bummer
The experience of charging an electric vehicle in the US could be better, and a big new study is out that lists the biggest infrastructure pain points, including a failure to report broken stalls, inaccurate station status messages, aging equipment, and some habitually unreliable network providers (who go unnamed in the study, unfortunately).
The study was conducted by the company ChargerHelp, which offers EV charger operations and maintenance solutions. The firm also had its findings reviewed and confirmed by Professor Gil Tal, who is director of the Electric Vehicle Research Center at UC Davis.
ChargerHelp used four years of data from the 20,000 chargers it monitors, comparing networked stations’ self-reported uptime against the actual uptime EV drivers find on location.

Google is done making Chromecasts. In a post on Tuesday, Google says it’s “ending production of Chromecast” after over a decade of selling the streaming dongles.
Even though Chromecast devices will now be available “while supplies last,” Google says it will continue to push software and security updates to its newer devices without specifying which ones. The most recent update to the lineup was the Chromecast with Google TV released in 2022.

OpenAI won’t watermark ChatGPT text because its users could get caught
OpenAI has had a system for watermarking ChatGPT-created text and a tool to detect the watermark ready for about a year, reports The Wall Street Journal. But the company is divided internally over whether to release it. On one hand, it seems like the responsible thing to do; on the other, it could hurt its bottom line.
Offering any way to detect AI-written material is a potential boon for teachers trying to deter students from turning over writing assignments to AI. The Journal reports that the company found watermarking didn’t affect the quality of its chatbot’s text output. In a survey the company commissioned, “people worldwide supported the idea of an AI detection tool by a margin of four to one,” the Journal writes.

Or, in the words of James Vincent, a human person: “These AI tools are vast autocomplete systems, trained to predict which word follows the next in any given sentence. As such, they have no hard-coded database of ‘facts’ to draw on — just the ability to write plausible-sounding statements.
