Trying new coffee flavors in a coffeehouse with Bianca, Fabio, and Camilla. Roasts from Kenia and Ethiopia.

in #life6 years ago

Today Bianca and I wanted to do something fun in the afternoon.

We went to Rotterdam by car and decided to give @fabrews a call on the way there to see if he was up to something.

He had this cool idea to visit a coffee bar he wanted to go to for a very long time.

It's a place in Rotterdam where they roast their coffee in-house. Pretty cool.

I picked him and his almost future wife Camilla up from their apartment in Rotterdam and we went to the coffee bar.

Now to establish a baseline I want to show the machine I use every day to make coffee.

I had this machine for about 4 years and bought it second-hand from the Dutch eBay (called marktplaats).

It's been very trustworthy and makes filter coffee the way I like. Simple yet strong.

Upon entering the coffee place you see a machine they use to roast the coffee. They also have this huge grinder.

On the floor there are many huge bags filled with coffee. It's also the first time I think I ever have seen unroasted coffee in my life.

Behind the bar they have several machines to make coffee in different ways. Including filter coffee! Because this is the way I'm most familiar with I decided to go with this.

IMG_0124.jpg

I ordered the 'test plank'. Basically 3 types of filter coffee in 3 cups. 2 roasts from Kenia and 1 from Ethiopia.

The one thing I found most striking about the coffee from these two African countries was the flavor. I'm used to earthy dark coffee flavor and this coffee was way more flowery and herby flavor. Very delicious but my brain couldn't wrap its head around the fact it was coffee. It appears I have missed out on a whole range of coffee flavor I didn't even know existed. I want to explore this further now.

IMG_1906.jpg

To finish off I had a cappuccino made from a Brazilian roast. This was a way more familiar flavor and probably the best cup of coffee I had this year. But less exciting and unfamiliar than the other 3.

I love trying new food and drinks and Fabio certainly surprised me today! I had a fantastic afternoon with my friends!

It shows through the giant pictures coffee and it will be wonderful and delicious . You have been touched by the details of the subject is wonderful, I was able by bringing us how to roast coffee until you get in the cup and become ready to consume, thank you .

I actually went to Colombia and saw how they made the coffee @artizm. Check out one of my videos it shows how they make the coffee from picking the bean to grinding it. It's pretty amazing

do you also like coffee? just like most of my village Aceh, indonesia.coffe is the most fun drink in Aceh, be it teenagers and adults, many of us spend the day off work in the coffee shop with a warm discussion making the atmosphere warm , I think you should try it in Aceh because there are also many foreign tourists who fall in love with Aceh coffee

I like coffee, man. I'm curious what Aceh coffee will taste like!

hehe .... like most people of Aceh say "no money no women" then there is no coffee in the morning as there is less .. so is the picture of how Aceh coffee is special😅

Switching from beer to coffee ? :)

I do drink other drinks too you know! lol.

But nothing gets you as excited as beer :)))))

I am glad to see you together guys.I can already smell the nice Coffee here :) Thank you for sharing these nice moments and enjoy your weekend!

To be very honest i did not see unroasted coffee in my entire life. Btw how beautifully they made it, amazing.

Well you always give a new idea to relax the life once again you inspired me that how much it is important to give time to your partner.

Thanks for the tip @exyle :-)

Stay blessed, steem on

Hey brother, stumbled across your page through what I think was Biancas page? bkbkb something? 🙏🏼

So you guys live in the Netherlands? How is your experience from living there? As I wrote on Biancas post I've been to the Netherlands over 20+ times for different festivals and will be visiting there now next weekend again for a festival with my girlfriend @sandrastarud.

We have been thinking about moving there in a couple of years, is it something you would recommend so to speak? Our dutch friends are trying hard to convince us 😉

Otherwise, if you're into travelling, vlogs, fitness, self-development etc feel free to check out my channel, in any case keep up the good work and I'll see you around!

I was born here. I think it's a nice country to live.

Have you ever tried coffee from Vietnam? I was surprised to learn that coffee connoisseurs consider it among the best in the world. I know I really like it!

I had no clue, thanks for the tip!

Ziet er gezellig uit zou ik ook eens moeten proberen want ik houd wel van een lekker bakkie zoals bijna alle Nederlanders! Ik ga kijken of ik ergens die brazillian roast kan vinden.

Super blog weer @exyle fijne avond!

Now this is my kind of bar! I would literally be in heaven there, surrounded by all that coffee, but it would be so hard to pick one to try so the 'test plank' sounds like a great idea!

I'm going to try and find a similar place here in the UK, if not, I think it would definitely give me a solid reason to visit Rotterdam! I'm enjoying these blogs of yours, the character and writing is great and it feels like I was there reading it, I love the fact that you were able to go behind the scenes and check out all the raw coffee!

I've never heard about flowery or herby flavour in coffee.
You learn something new every day :d

That place looks great. The first time I saw unroasted coffee beans was when I got them delivered to try roasting in the house. It was amazing at how strange they look unroasted

Today is a great day to enjoy life!

Well, there is something totally different than a beer-tasting or a wine-tasting.!
I have the feeling these coffee experiences are getting very trendy at the moment because you see them popping up everywhere (which is a good thing!) A friend of mine is even trying to set one up here on the island, and I brought a crapload of filters for him from Holland last time I was there.

You need to get out more, @exyle! There is a whole world of different coffees waiting for you! Who knows, you might even become a coffee connoisseur! lol

I'm doing my best :). I doubt I become a connoisseur, lol. But I do want to try some different coffees now.!

Usually the local starbucks have the different varieties of African beans, didn't know they were that rare of a commodity in Europe?

I don't know for sure. I think I went to Star Bucks once because it was the only place warm in the train station. I had a normal black coffee.

Ha, well it's all very similar in color but they have different beans from around the world there too. Usually if you just ask for a regular coffee they just give you what's popular without telling you but it's all there.

Am I the only person that salivated after seeing the above picture? I just feel like gulping it.

I like the way you talked about the African coffee. I'm African so I've prolly tested those flavours before and they sure taste fine.

I've tasted some Spanish coffee too - my uncle brought them back from Spain and the flavour was pretty amazing.

It's always fun when u get to test different coffee combination and discover that you've missing some well brewed coffee for a while.

Thanks for the pictures, they're beautiful and did justice to the post.
Expecting to see more beautiful post from u soon.

Happy Steeming

looking delicious.. for sure you are a coffee guy... every IT guy i met loces coffee ;-), lol

That is true what you said about every IT guy

They roast their coffee in house nice I smell it already, bloody hell that looks like its about to launch something let alone coffee wow I have to say the equipment does look impressive, flowery and herby flavor lol sounds like a new flavor by @exyle

HI @exyle I actually went to Colombia and went to a coffee farm. They showed us how they grew the plant, picked the coffee bean, dried the beans than cook and grind the coffee. We saw the entire process it's really interesting. Very organic and natural. No assembly lines. You can check out my video on my blog!!!!

@exyle,
Next time ask them to make STEEM logo via the coffee :D I think it might be a good idea to add this to STEEM COFFEE tag! Nice experience dude! You are balancing the life well!

Cheers~

Been trying different types of coffee for cold brewing. Found a great shop who's owners actually travel the world to find new coffee bean farms. They can not only tell you about the flavor to expect but details about the farm the beans come from. It's pretty amazing. Not the cheapest shop and it's a 40 minute drive, but I love that they actually go and visit their sources and are always looking for new beans to add to their shop.

If you haven't tried it look into cold brewing your coffee. IMO it gives a much better flavor.

I have never heard of cold brewing in my life. I'll check it out!

The coffee ends up much less acidic and you get to experience more of the flavor of the actual coffee as the acidity isn't taking away from the flavor.

You can still drink it hot or drink over ice (my preference). It takes 12 hours to brew, but you are premaking a concentrate that you keep in the fridge.

Nice thing with a concentrate is you can control how strong you like your coffee on a cup by cup basis...great if 2 people like it different.

wow excellent post friend and it's nice to see you going for an outing with friends and have nice cup of coffee, cappuccino coffee is also my favorite drink and i usually take one cup in a day and it makes me feel fresh again honestly i never see such coffee machines before they are so unique and innovative, wish you a very joyful and cheerful weekend ahead friend, Stay awesome

I think today is a great day to enjoy the life!
@exyle

wow i also love coffee and i first time watch these types of machines

Well, I really envy you. Good job for IOS app, but I hope the Android app will be available soon. And I hope I can contribute to develop a part of it too. Again thanks to all of you for your time you spent on developing and enhancing the steem system.
@racoo

I heard the android app is on the way too, I wonder if the android app will contain chat module. I think it is a nesesity for an integrated system for the user to communicate.
And a reference library is needed for us to get up to dated informaion about the steemit system. For example most liked posts can be presented for all the users under a link in that reference module for us to nurture our informaion needs. Just a recommendation :))
@racoo

hola @exyle desde Venezuela te sigo con admiración! nada como un café caliente! quedaria perfecto con una rica torta selva negra!IMG_20170501_1212463_rewind.jpg
