That's the problem you see. One that we are all aware of. You earn money by writing on Hive. That earning will always be seen by some as something to be abused. Why work for it when you can use scammy shortcuts? The kind of people who try to farm and abuse Hive always try to gloss over this point by stating that they don't earn much or @johnnyfuckingbaw earns millions so why aren't they being downvoted instead of me? Blah blah blah. They will twist and turn and say anything to deflect away from the fact that they have been caught spam farming. I am getting ahead of myself though. So AI has arrived and people have started using it to write posts and try to earn rewards on it. It's fucking WRONG. Everyone knows it! How can you genuinely expect to earn rewards for tapping a couple of sentences into ChatGPT?! The posts are so easy to spot. They look as if they have been written by a boring cat. If you are in any doubt there are also tools to spot them. Boring cats or not, that hasn't stopped users from giving it a bash to see if they can earn crypto for zero effort. Even high-rep users who have been here for years and should know better?! So below I have compiled a list of the excuses and helpfully, for those who wish to dabble in AI-generated posts, I have placed a succinct and erudite response to each of the potential defences. In my opinion having a machine write a post is like saying I am worthless, instead each of us is unique as a human and valuable because of that. I will continue to take time to write a post because I enjoy doing it, and I will continue to appreciate posts that contain errors but excite or are useful. The beauty is often more in the imperfections than the perfections.
Using AI to produce effortless content is like preferring to make love to a robot instead of a woman...a crazy choice.... !LOL

I absolutely agree with this. I would rather read an error-laden garbled post that at least excited or interested me rather than one written in the style of machine bland that merely recites facts and veered away from having an actual opinion. Reading stuff that you

You certainly give a lot of fucks about this. Pretty much since we started here I've seen posts that are more like Wikipedia or magazine articles. They may have been written by people, but there was no personality behind them and so I didn't generally vote on them. Now people can generate that stuff easily and we will see more, but my voting habits will not change. I vote for people, not machines. I do expect the 'AIs' will improve and may get harder to detect. The genii is very much out of the bottle now.
I do wonder if these services will start charging though as you need serious processing that is not available on a regular PC.
I have used some image generating apps, but I will say when I do so. I'm a crap artist anyway.

It will become a paid for service. Almost certainly, I don't worry about it too much though as even when it gets better I think we are many months away from something being produced that is compelling.

As I know users with more than 10k accounts, whom I am confident already automate content profitably thereby, and since it is obvious AI content will improve, be jailbroken for money, and etc., this will become impossible to resolve with @Hivewatchers in time.
Perhaps then the real solution to that actual problem, enabling automation of human interactions, will be at least attempted to be resolved fundamentally, and the retardation of Hive by it's over emphasis of finance will be undertaken.

We are focused on academic writing, critical thinking and research and you want an AI to do it? That's not academic writing at all... And when caught these students claim to only use it since they were busy... Some kid did create an app to detect essays written by AI but the tech is advancing so quickly we soon won't be able to discern it from human-written text. This scares the complete shit out of me as a writer. Soon, the only way you'll be able to truly determine will be if the author had material written before AI hit mainstream.

I read a really cool article on how they work and they essentially construct sentences word by word with a list of words that most often follow one other which is why they sound so fluid but it is also a failing in that they rarely say something tangential.
But yes, this is only really the beginning and the advances they make will make it nigh on impossible to detect.

It seems AI has been a big threat for HIVE and us. It might abuse the rewards pool of HIVE. The permanent ban of such accounts is very right decision by Hivewatchers, hope it won't be difficult to determine those accounts.
It generally isnt difficult to notice them especially when new but when it is an older more established and generally trusted account people sometimes fail to notice at first. Which I hope does not happen too often
The same shame can be seen in the art communities around the Hive. And that makes it really hard to curate artwork these days, because I don't want to support art that lacks that very touch that only a human being can give to art. Ingenuity!

What I don't understand is that there are legal places where they can use it. For example, they can use it as text when making videos for Youtube. This is why I appreciate well written posts that are genuine. If an AI does all your work for you, you are not participating in the community. You are just contaminating it.
I couldnt agree more. The people that try these shortcuts are never interested in community. They pretend that everyone is out to game the system. It grinds my gears. They hope to crack an autovote and reap the rewards. Who knows who could actually read an AI article and be wow'ed by it
AI is fun to talk to. But it’s flat, and monotonous to a certain extent. ChatGPT even says it’s an assistant. It’s not supposed to do the heavy lifting of an ENTIRE article.
I have had fun playing around with it. I did think that it was useful in an almost thesaurus-like way but exactly as you say, its not meant to be the sole author.

I tend to look on the bright side, so in that one the only thing I would love to see now is new ways to sort out content (similar to algorithms that promote quality content vs not quality content) and what we need is encouragement or rewarding quality over quantity, sadly hive has a weakspot on that one but lets see what we can come up with.
I would like a better filter or sort on content. At the moment with the weak reputation system it is hard for such things but some clever algo work could probably be done to serve up a user more targetted content. Then again that takes you down the rabbit hole of controlling what is being seen!
Hopefully it is all to come!
To be honest I am feeling very good to see that many user are getting aware about AI generated post. I think without making any kind of effort expecting any kind of reward from here seems impossible. But a group of people supporting AI generated post which was unexpected for me. I am hopeful that within a short time all of them will be identified.

I have been impressed too that more and more people have been awakened to the power and danger to Hive of the auto ghost written AI nonsense posts.
I really did have my eye more on the obvious scam farmers and didn't think that people with a rep in their 70s would chance their arm in this way. But people will be people!

It all started with A.i Digital Arts and than ChatGPT arrived... Rest we all know.
Man, this world is really cruel sometimes... I was reading article that a student created tool to detect AI plagiarism and people were literally abusing him in comments.
Seeing quite similar thing on hive for calling out people using A.i and exploiting openly aren't ready to accept their mistake instead blaming for downvotes.

I see that one of them, is it Open AI are having a Class action lawsuit against them for the algorithm trawling the web for art content that it then builds into its library of content to then work from when being asked to come up with stuff. It is indeed and if these things are used for grammar and readability then all good But its still a weak defense for getting anything GPT-like to actually write content for publication!
Relying on AI writing will make people really stupid. It's like learning by watching videos, you lose the knowledge really fast again. Some things have to be done, some thoughts need to be experienced.
For business purposes, those tools are extremely helpful. Personal writing, it's a good way to lose the ways your characters influence the writing. Makes for really boring and dull content - not that excited about that. Life is about truth and the human experience for me, AI shall remain a tool.
I can imagine half the docs that are produced in my company being easily and more professionally done by using these tools. As you say though, when it comes to personal writing that is where they fall down. I have noticed that with video learning. Yo uhave to actually take notes and practice whatever it is or it just flies straight out of the head. Unless they are guitar videos, that sticks with ya!
Yeah, I can't memorize any details about the information I only watched in a video. It's a shame, but that's how it is.
My boss can't spell or structure a sentence for shit. I get the job of editing. I might farm it out to Grammarly, but that probably doesn't understand the needs of her monthly board reports or how we want to describe local events. They also usually have an inbuilt preference for blandness. I suspect I can do a better job in general. That said, such tools to refine writing can help many, but should not be lumped in with plagiarizing robot-generated spam.

Autocorrect on my phone ignores typos and "fixes" things I typed right on the first place. Fun!
Oh yes, same for me. I write in three different languages on my phone and sometimes I forget to manually switch the word correction and it just turns words around and rephrases parts of my sentence, wild.

I've been noticing AI everything recently, in fact, on YouTube, there was an ad I seen recently for a smart watch; the script was clearly AI written, the voice was AI, hell the video was probably AI.
I'd say more and more companies will do these kinds of ads when they realise the money they can save.

I've read a few posts here about chatgpt, and from what I understand it pulls information from the Internet. Which would make any text it spits out either a summary or a respin. Without any original opinion whatsoever.
The art AI is different. So long as it's clearly marked as such, it can be useful for creating a unique cover image. I don't use it, as I find it faster and easier to use Canva or Gimp. Getting good results with artbreeder or something takes forever.
For digital art I prefer Apophysis and gimp and sometimes Canva
